Our teachers offer a wide variety of teaching styles to meet individual needs.  There is nothing wrong with the traditional style of teaching music (reading, counting, scales, chords, etc).  However we recognize that the traditional style is not suited for everyone.  We are able to implement a variety of teaching and learning strategies to help our students.  Please contact the school for more information.

Music Lessons

Piano/keyboard lessons are offered to students aged four and up.  Beginner students do not need a full size piano but will require a keyboard that has full sized keys and touch sensitivity.  We have a loaner instrument program for those without a keyboard.  Our staff will advise you when the time is appropriate to upgrade to a higher quality instrument.

Guitar lessons are offered to students aged eight and up.  Students have the opportunity to learn a variety of styles:  jazz, rock, modern and classical.  Lessons are also offered on bass guitars.

Complete your musical education with a JLSM theory course. We offer an informative theory and history program that will prepare you for a Royal Conservatory of Music Examination. As a theory student, you will learn to comprehend the language of music and to appreciate the history and tradition of a great art form. At the same time, you will develop the skills needed to enhance your ability to play your instrument.

The following theory courses are offered at JLSM:

Rudiments—Beginner (Preliminary), Intermediate (Grade 1) and Advanced (Grade 2)

Harmony and History—Level III

 

Rudiments

Our violin program is for all ages.  We strive to have each student learn different styles such as fiddle style to the classical methods.  The students have opportunities to perform in small ensembles with other violin players or a mix of instruments.

Our vocal teachers will train students to develop proper vocal techniques.  Age appropriate material is also considered when choosing the students’ repertoire.

Voice

Beginner drum students will learn the rudiments of music theory, stick control and various drumming patterns.  As the students progress, they will learn a wide variety of styles from our experienced instructors.

Whether you are a beginner or a student in high school participating in band, our flute instructor can help you unlock your full potential.  As with all our programs, you will learn proper technique along with the necessary rudiments of music theory.
